Question about the bottle

The BE O Bottle is modular, which means that you can disassemble it into several parts. This way you can easily clean it. You may also clean the bottle with a dishwashing brush.

Good question! We can talk about this for hours, but in short it means this:

The BE O Bottle is a climate positive bottle. Here’s why: the BE O Bottle is made from sugar cane, a fast growing crop takes up a lot of CO2. So much that more net CO2 is absorbed than is emitted during production and shipping. After harvesting, the sugar cane is processed into cane sugar and a residual product is released. This residual flow is used to make bioplastic. In this way we also prevent parts of the plant from being wasted.

Bonus for the climate: we plant a tree for every bottle sold through Trees for the Future.

The BE O Bottle is for sale via our own BE O Shop *insert link* But also at bol.com and Ecomondo.nl. Prefer to view and hold the bottle first in real life? Also possible! You can find us at De Bijenkorf, ServicPoints at NS stations, & Klevering and Make My Day.

The sky is the limit! Water, fruit lemonade and alcoholic drinks below 13% are suitable. Beet juice is something we still have to try out, the juice extractor is ordered. Be careful with carbonated drinks, the pressure can cause a leak.

The material

The BE O bottle is made from a minimum of 94% bioplastic from Brazilian sugarcane. The producer of the material keeps a margin of 6%, this is because they produce also “oilplastic” in the same factory. You can compare it with food that writes on the package that there may be remnants of nuts or milk, because these products are also made in the same factory. Together with the producer of the material we are researching how we could guarantee 100% bioplastic in the future. List of all materials:

  • Bottle and cap: BIO-HDPE (BIO-High Density Polyethene)
  • Middle part ring: BIO-TPE (BIO-Thermoplastic Elastomer)
  • Cap ring: BIO-TPE (BIO-Thermoplastic Elastomer)
  • Natural pigments: residual sea shells (white bottle) and charcoal (black bottle)

Sugarcane, the raw material of the BE O bottle, is harvested every year and the plant can be harvested for about five years before a new plant has to be planted. Fossil oil needs millions of years to generate. Next to that, sugarcane absorbs carbon dioxide from the air during growth. Fossil oil only emits carbon dioxide during its combustion. Sugarcane absorbs three times more carbon dioxide than it emits before being converted into bioplastic.

Good question! Before bioplastic can be made from sugar cane, the cane has already provided many other products. From the first two pressings juice is created that you can turn in to cane sugar. From the thrid and fourth presses bioethanol can be made. And that material is the basis for our bioplastic.

Yes. The bottle is 100% recyclable, you can dispose the bottle with other old plastic. But to be honest, we hope you will enjoy your bottle for the rest of your life! well, maybe not that long but in any case for a while 🙂

Absolutely. The BE O bottle is free of BPA and other toxic substances. Bisphenol A is a plasticizer that can dissolve and end up in the food chain, we definitely do not want that. Grose.

Yes! The producer of the material has a code of conduct with his suppliers of the sugarcane and in this code of conduct there are requirements set up for these suppliers. For example, no sugarcane is ordered from suppliers who use child labor or where staff is underpaid. In addition, the environmental impact of the suppliers and whether they harvest the sugar cane in protected areas such as the Amazon are also examined.

Question about the cup

The BE O cupis modular, which means that you can disassemble it into several parts. This way you can easily clean it. You can also put the cup  in your dishwasher.

The BE O cup is designed for the hot drink: coffee. A latte fits perfectly in this BE O cup! Be careful when the BE O cup is filled with hot liquids. Carry the BE O cup in an upright position and do not shake it.

On the go? Then you can easily drink from the BE O cup via the lid. You can open and close it with a finger. Fill the BE O cup with your favourite coffee by unscrewing the lid. Of course, you can also enjoy your hot drink without the lid. What makes the cup extra comfortable are the ribs at the bottom of the cup. This makes it easy to hold the cup.

The cup is 16.4 cm long, 8 cm at its very widest and weighs about 0.11 kg/ 0.24 pounds.

The material

The cup is made of bioplastic derived from used frying oils.
All materials at a glance:
Closer: BIO-TPE (BIO-Thermoplastic Elastomer)
