FAQs
Yes! All our products are 100% recyclable within the current waste stream. This is because we exclusively use drop-in bioplastics. Drop-in bioplastics are bioplastics whose chemical structure is identical to that of conventional plastics. The base components of these bioplastics are made from renewable resources instead of petroleum.
All our products can be disposed of with PMD waste (Plastic, Metal, and Drink cartons), commonly known as plastic waste. This way, the products are recycled together with ‘regular’ plastics and can be used to make new products. Since our products have the same chemical properties, the recycling stream remains clean.
All parts can be replaced individually, making the bottle and cup easy to repair yourself. The separate parts can be ordered through our website. If you need help with this, please fill out the form on our contact page.
You might already guess it from the shape of the bottle. The BE O bottle is made from 94% bioplastic derived from Brazilian sugarcane. Curious how we turn sugarcane into our bottle? The manufacturer maintains a margin of 6% because the same factory also processes conventional ‘oil-based’ plastic. You can compare it to food packaging that states it may contain traces of nuts or milk because those products are processed in the same facility. Together with our manufacturer, we are researching how to guarantee 100% bioplastic production.
Here’s a breakdown of the materials used:
- Bottle and cap: BIO-HDPE (BIO–High Density Polyethylene)
- Middle ring: BIO-TPE (BIO–Thermoplastic Elastomer)
- Cap ring: BIO-TPE (BIO–Thermoplastic Elastomer)
Good question! The BE O bottle is a climate-positive bottle. We could talk about it for hours, but in short, it means this:
The BE O bottle is made from sugarcane, a fast-growing plant that absorbs a large amount of CO₂. In fact, it absorbs more CO₂ than is emitted during production and transport. After harvesting, the sugarcane is processed into cane sugar, which produces a byproduct. This byproduct is then used to create the bioplastic for our BE O bottle, ensuring that no part of the plant goes to waste.
Yes! The manufacturer of the material has established a code of conduct that sets strict requirements for its sugarcane suppliers. This means that no materials are purchased from suppliers who use child labor or underpay their workers. In addition, the environmental impact of suppliers is carefully evaluated to ensure that the sugarcane is not harvested in protected areas such as the Amazon.
The bottle is 24.5 cm tall, 6.8 cm at its widest point, and weighs approximately 124 grams.
The BE O bottle is dishwasher safe! You can also easily wash it by hand, as all parts can be taken apart. Make sure to let all parts dry thoroughly before reassembling. Clean the bottle after each use. The cap ring is usually where most bacteria accumulate. It’s important to remove both the middle ring and the cap ring from the bottle and clean all five separate parts regularly. Let them dry completely before putting them back together.
In North Brabant, specifically in Son en Breugel. The BE O bottle is produced at GL-Plastics. Our products are assembled at Maak in Nijmegen, a social workplace where a dedicated team works together to prepare our products for shipment.
All non-carbonated drinks are welcome. Water, lemonade, or juices. Even alcoholic beverages up to 13% can be stored in the bottle. The BE O bottle is not suitable for carbonated drinks, as the pressure they create may cause leakage.
This can happen, especially around the cap ring where bacteria can build up. It’s important to regularly remove both the middle ring and the cap ring from the BE O bottle and thoroughly clean all five parts. Make sure to let all components dry completely before reassembling.
Please note! When the BE O bottle is placed in the dishwasher together with kitchenware that has food residues such as tomato soup or spaghetti sauce, the middle ring of the bottle may become discolored. Try to avoid this.
Absolutely! The BE O bottle is free from BPA, BPS, BPF, and melamine (and free from any other substances that could be harmful to your health).
